04 more drug peddlers arrested by Police

Continuing its campaign “war against drugs”, Jammu and Kashmir Police has arrested four drug peddlers and recovered huge amount of contraband substances including illicit liquor, cannabis and poppy straw from their possession in South Kashmir’s Kulgam and Anantnag districts. Acting on a specific information, Kulgam police headed by SHO Qazigund Shri Sahil Mahajan and under the supervision of SP Kulgam Shri Shridhar Patil laid nakas at two different locations viz Alstop Qazigund and Qazigund market. During naka checking at Alstop Qazigund, a scooter bearing number JK03E-8802 was intercepted. On checking 35 pouches of Illicit liquor was recovered from the possession of Tariq Ahmad Bhat resident of Khudwani. A case FIR number 292/2017 under section 48 Excise Act was registered and investigation was taken up. While during naka checking at Qazigund market, a Tata Sumo bearing registration number JK01M- 6165 was intercepted. During the search of the vehicle 30 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from the possession of Ajaz Ahmad Sofi and Gulzar Ahmad Sofi residents of Wibugh Pulwama who were boarding the vehicle. A case was registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation was taken up. Meanwhile in Anantnag, another notorious drug peddler was arrested by police during a naka checking in the jurisdiction of Police Station Ashmuqam under the supervision of SDPO Pahalgam Shri Javeed Tabasum. During naka checking, one person identified as Bilal Ahmad Saqa son of Mohammad Shaban Saqa resident of Saqa Mohalla Ashmuqam who was coming from Ashmuqam tried to flee from the spot on seeing the naka party, however, the alert and vigilant police on duty chased him effectively and was apprehended. On search 800 grams of cannabis was recovered from his possession. A case FIR number 44/2017 under section 8/20 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Ashmuqam and investigation was taken up. The war against drugs will continue in the valley.
